    Aluminum welding

Do you need AC power to Mig weld aluminum or can it be done with dc. I don't know much about electricity. a lengthy explanation would be appreciated.

and not to confuse it more.

Both processes use regular AC Input power from the wall.

    Re: Aluminum welding

To pickup on Ed's posts, alum mig uses inert gas typically argon set to DCEP polarity current. The arc for alum will always be in spray as alum as a metal is too conductive to short arc weld. High speed pulse features do help with arc stablilization and puddle stability, and low speed pulse over high speed pulse can give you the mig like tig look on alum. Personally I only use alum mig for tacking and fill. Everything else is tig.

Like this project I start with parts, tack them up with open corners and then fill weld with the mig. After filling I blend and radius the outside corners.
