Anybody else shake the blob off?

Anybody else shake the blob off the orange hot tungsten off after a dunk? Seems to give a more mileage before receiving? Make sure nobody is around or below you. Keep hood down too.

Never heard of it, but my try. Do you stop the arc before you shake it?

Been doing the shake it off thing since I started. But try this. If i get a huge blob of metal pop out of puddle and end up on tungsten I quickly dip it into puddle and 90 percent comes off tungsten and stays in puddle. Seems crazy but it works. This leaves much less material to grind off tungsten when you resharpen.

Wow, Castweld posted. Good to hear from you , sir.

Never thought about doing it with 7018.

Definitely gotta beware of where you sling it.

Really??? The arc gets crappy afterward, why would you want to keep welding that way?

The shake-off is to get rid of the blob, not to keep going. Castweld just upped the game with a suggestion to put the blob back in the puddle instead of flicking it at the dog

What are you welding when you dip and shake, Aluminum, steel, or stainless steel ? When tigging aluminum over 250 amps with 1/8" pure tungsten(green) on my old Airco, I always worry the ball is going to fall off into the weld sometimes, often it shakes like jello. I had it happen once, and what a mess that made.

I heard it as "no matter how you shake your peg, the last few drops run down your leg"
