    Opinion on MIG welders?

Thinking of upgrading to a Miller 211 first generation, from my ancient 110V MIG.

What do people think of the 211 vs other MIG machines in the same category? Any experience with them? Will it really weld 1/4" steel?

My primary use for it will be body work, but would like capability up to 1/4".

It's a good machine if you find one for the right price. On 240 volts it will for sure weld quarter inch

    Miller is good brand
You like using 240 volt welders too, no more breaker flipping.

The 211 transformer original are bulletproof.
The inverters have great reviews too.
Perfect time to buy the 211 . Miller rebate and many suppliers have added deals.
Baker's Gas and Welders Supply gave specials now. $1355.00
I would buy from local supplier and get a package deal with a tank. You're gonna need a tank of 75/25 anyways. A 125 or 150 is what I suggest .

You may want to consider a Hobart 210. Don't quote me on this but I think they are made by Miller or something like that. Only thing you will be sacrificing over a 211 is the infinite voltage control rather than taps, that can be nice sometimes. Certainly can't go wrong with either of the 211's.Name: hobart.jpg

    Re: Opinion on MIG welders?

I bought mine 11-12 years ago when they first came out. Zero machine complaints or problems.

I have not tried the inverter model, but think I would choose the original transformer model if given the choice. A good rolling cart makes the weight difference inconsequential. I can’t see holding the welder while welding anyway.

Finding a good used one will be the trick. I seldom see them for sale and they retain their value.

Appreciate the good advice. I have a tank, although want to get away from Air Gas who likes my money a little too much.

Any idea of a fair price? Saw one locally, but think it may be gone already.

Before you buy a tank, check with suppliers on their exchange polices. Tanks can be a touchy subject.
Many suppliers will only exchange like for like and may only do 125 OR 150 for non business.
Oxygen cylinders are usually most common for sale. That's why I mentioned about like for like exchanges. Definitely call suppliers.
Prices vary by area and usually many private sellers have tanks that need to be recertified.
There are posts about tanks if you want to search.

You could post your location. Somebody might know of one, or can help look out for one.

Price was $1,100, which at least one person thought was good as it went quick. Had a cart and bottle. Supposedly little use.

I am in the Mid Atlantic area. No rush, something will turn up.
