Princess Auto had a sale on the cheap setup magnets (yes, I noticed there's no cheap junk in that drawer...) and they had been sitting under my bench near the grinder for months. When I was building the welding table was the first time I had ever got to use them. First time I picked them up I noticed they were attracting a lovely coat of grinding "fur" from the bench grinder. Almost had it in place but it needed to go straight down.... so like an idiot I smacked it with my bare palm. Yea.... don't do that...

So I was telling Sid I hadn't seen Terry put anything cool on his new table yet... and he said he had an idea!!! wouldn't tell me what he had in mind... but he left for lunch early and I didn't see him come back for work... then I get this text from him about 20 minutes ago with a pic of him and Natalie...

That is kinda cool... and not too bad a price, however I can see where it would get expensive fast if I ordered up 6 or 7 of em' for a custom workbench/ weldbench I'll bet Terry is ordering a few as I type

This “Terry” that I assume you refer to may be handsome, charming and witty but a novice weldor at best. I can assure you he would have to sell off much more of his shop tools in order to make such a purchase. Sid will confirm.

Hmmm..... now you have me rethinking my vice mount. I was going to mount it solid on the leg level with the table top... but now I'm thinking upright receiver so I can swap it from the leg to the table top.... decisions, decisions...

Is there a pin or "set screw" to lock them in the vertical receivers? I would think things would rock a lot in use otherwise. That was why I added T-bolts to my horizontal receivers on my bench.

It's builds like this that inspire people across the world to do better

I need to do better... I still don't even have a rack for my fixture clamps, and I've had my table for a few years now!

I'm almost ready to order some drawer runners to make a similar clamp rack to yours (it won't be anywhere near as nice though!) but I just don't seem to be able to find the time.

Do your receiver mounted vices have any means to hold them in the receiver? or is it just gravity?

Setscrews haven’t been needed so far as the combination of gravity and weight has been more than adequate.





If necessary Plans B and C would be to use a set screw..



Or drill a hole in the baseplate and use these 1/2-20 magnetic inserts









to secure the device to the table top.

Love your setup! What brand are the drop in Clamps? Do they sell the lower dowel section by itself?

The clamps are "okay" quality "reasonably" priced Strong Hand.

I've made my own dowels with 5/8" round stock but decided to buy them this time.

It would appear to be an ideal product to replace 2.5” seamless square tube. It would allow for a lower profile installation while providing a tighter fit. 6” length with 5/8 hole with location pin AND pre tapped holes for jam bolts.

I am not sure how much shipping for those are to you. If it cost prohibitive, could you just cut off the side with the seam?
Alternatively, use your hydraulic press to make one?
