Looks like a pretty decent machine if you want a water jet.





I thought about getting one so I could cut out pre-forms to forge into hinge straps or bottle openers. Never pulled the trigger, though, because even that low-level price tag is way out of my budget.

It certainly looks like it'd be great for a small shop when you compare it to similarly sized laser and plasma cutting tables.

Just about any process will cut it, just a matter of how long it takes.

Water jet looks pretty neat. Do they have a max cut depth like plasma? Also do they have a cleaner cut line that is not angled like plasma?

Definitely cheaper to sub it out. The wazer machine uses glorified pressure washer components, so it cuts incredibly slow, and uses an insane amount of garnet to make up for the lack of pressure. There's a reason the 'starter kit' comes with a literal pallet of garnet.

Take a look at the cut time and garnet use on their sample part for various metals. I don't see the dimensions listed, but I think I remember reading that the part is less than 3 x 4".

We have 2 water jets and a plasma table in our department at work, yeah we get some cool toys. Max cut? I have seen the flowmax cut 6" 4130 and it was OK, but it runs at 27k psi. The Omax took on the same job about a week later, ran underwater, and under half the time. Pristine waterjet kerf marks... differenct 30 years of technology and 23K psi as in it runs at 50K psi. They are a cleaner cut line by far, but higher cost of consumables for what we do at work. I haven't seen too much AL cut on a plasma that didn't take the same amount of time to grind off the slag that was left on it. Our welders take the waterjetted parts knock the scale off them and weld, or buff for AL.

As a machinist they both suck for true square cuts, but higher pressure on the waterjet is better than plasma. You get deflection with both processes, but it all depends on thickness of material, material type, and psi of the waterjet for your finish. Our Omax is 5 axis, and can have very little deflection on 1/2" but 1 inch... forget it, there will be deflection.
