    Hello from VA

Hello from Virginia, it has been a while since I have done any serious welding of fabrication work and I am just getting back into the swing of things. I have a few questions regarding getting my equipment up and running again.

For the local guys, who is the best Gas supplier in the area Price and service....currently I have a 125CF Tank of 25%CO2/Argon mix I own that I got through a Air Liquide/AIRGAS dealer from when I was in CT...however Culpeper machine only exchanges customer owned tanks 80CF and smaller...I am looking to add straight argon, and HE/argon mix for the Heliwelder, Who is the best out fit in the area I would probably be using them to fill C02 for the kegerator as well...

Caveat: I haven't exchanged bottles recently but "Best outfit in the area" may be Roberts Oxygen. I've swapped small oxy, acet, and co2 with no account and no grief. Not sure if they even-exchange the 125 cf bottles. Other options are Matheson and Tractor Supply.

I used to live a couple of hours east of Sierra Vista in a little town south of Lordsburg, it was asmall company town called Playas, N.M., there was a copper smelter there, I was a Machinist. Were you in the service & stationed at Fort Huachuca? If so a big hearty thank you for your service.

I have an account at Arc3 gases in Fredericksburg. I have a bunch of 200 and 300 cf bottles that are customer owned. I have not had an issue getting them filled. I usually drop off one bottle and it goes to the Richmond plant for filling on a Thursday. I can usually pick it up in two weeks as long as the bottle doesnt need testing.

I use and like Arc3 but, up here in NoVa (Springfield or Sterling), they only exchange owned cylinders up to 80 ft^3.

80 is the exact number quoted by all of the welding supplies located in Roanoke VA,,
Above that size, the tanks are considered "rental/lease only"

Again, this is Roanoke,, other areas may vary,,

    Re: Hello from VA

Back in 2000 to 2012,, I used LOTS of oxygen,, and I attempted to buy 300CF bottles,,
none of the welding supplies would sell them to me.

I had four 300CF bottles rented (leased, actually,, IIRC), and they swapped them frequently.

Actually, one summer, a local scrapper let me use his liquid oxygen tank.
The amount of oxygen that the tank wasted keeping the liquid cold was about how much oxygen I was using,,
so, it cost him nothing to let me use the tank on the weekend.

I cut a LOT of parts when the oxygen was free!! Some weekends, I ran the torch for 20 hours, non-stop.

    Re: Hello from VA

A few years ago, someone posted on a tractor forum that the junkyard in Culpeper had a couple Gravely tractors for sale, I called the junkyard, then drove up and purchased them,, for about $50 each,, IIRC,,

It turned out that the 5665 Gravely only had 61 hours on it. It had been purchased by a school to move snow, used one year , then parked.

I brought the 5665 home, then after some TLC,, and lots of paint,, it looks a little nicer now,,

It even has hand painted flames,, now,,

So, you have to check out that junkyard, and keep us updated of anything they might have for sale that is interesting!!
