    Spot welder question

Has anyone had any experience with the 110V Chicago Electric spot welder from Harbor Freight ? I'm considering buying one. I just wondered if it's w good tool.

Never tried the 115v model.I bought the 230v.It works ok.
It’s a little sloppy mechanically.( as in too much play, poor
alignment).I would expect the 115v model to work ok as
long as you’re not trying to weld heavy sheet metal. I’d never
expect them to work as well as the big industrial machines,
or even the smaller Miller spot welders
    Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XL
    Millermatic 180
    Purox O/A
    Smith Littletorch O/A
    Hobart Champion Elite

You'd be So Much better off with their newer one (I used that 90A welder, it was $75 when I bought it , for a long time) and there'a a Night & Day difference, they're Really is. I used to say the biggest Bang-for-the-Buck you could get was the 90A but today, without Question, it's their Titanium 125 now. A remarkable little inverter machine for @ $180...

op is asking about the spot welders, not the migs...

i have the 220v and it's been good so far. the play in the tips can be reduced to acceptable level with proper adjustment and shims if needed . welds are nice with good penetration.i use it mostly on stainless however.

    Re: Spot welder question

I have the 110 model, and it has similar play as mentioned, though it's barely noticeable. Used within its limits, it's great. Last I used it on was a Cuisinart Mixer bowl. The little "bump" on the back that locks in place had broken off from it's factory spot welds. Just "tacked" it back on with the Harbor Freight welder and it's held up great. Of course, that's thin stainless sheet, so it is within it's limits. I wouldn't expect it to do much on something thick.
