I have been making a bunch of the same small parts and the biggest pain as you all know is the wire brushing of the weld. This is all done on 303 and 316 stainless with mig using trimix gas.

I have some wishful thinking that there may be an easier way to clean up the finished good. I have done some google searches but not found anything so i figured I would ask. Is there some chemical bath I could dip these in that would clean them up instead of wire brushing? The welds are fine as is, just need to get the soot and discoloration off. I am guessing the answer is no but maybe someone knows something I don't. I had learned the answer is no unless you ask, and often it is still no, but once in a while it is yes.

Thanks, Rob.

2" roloc disc with scotchbrite pads, they also make scotchbrite A/O points/drums/flapwheels that mount in die grinder. Following up with citrus surf passivation gel, and clear rinse.

Quick change pad burgundy: https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/03456928 grey is even finer

Surface conditioning belts on bench top belt sander or dyna file sander : https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/00222844

Best to keep these separate from ones you use on mild steel, so you don't get rust spots.

Thanks, I made up some stuff with citric acid and a crock pot several years ago to fix a few units that got hit with a carbon steel wire brush as they were starting to rust. Learned my lesson on that one and now put plywood down on the table when I am using the wire cup.

Was hoping for a magic bullet, the product is rod and flat so multi level, but appreciate the ideas. That citrus acid thing is a good idea to go back on and revisit.

Going to try to slow down the grinder and maybe the brushes will last a little longer.
