    Hypertherm 45xp

Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Trying to gouge out some welds with a new 45xp. Old cutter was a straight 45. Problem is arc will start but won’t stretch out to get deep enough in 90degree corner. Thanks

Not sure exactly what you mean. Does the 45xp have a gouging mode? I use a PM85 so I'm not overly familiar with that model.

Once the arc strikes and I start to cut when the tip gets 3/8-1/2” off the material the arc cuts out and I have to start over. I’m using gouging mode with the consumables that came with it but they are not the same as the original hypertherm 45 (not inner changeable with 45xp) don’t know if I need different consumable tips or what??

There are specific consumables for gouging with the 45XP, are you using these or the standard consumables?

Sorry, I assumed you had gouging consumables. The Gouging shield and nozzle is completely different from the cutting parts.

Yes I am using the gouging consumables. After a little more research what I have is the Max control shield. I think I may need the Max removal shield instead. Thanks guys
