    Tig Cooler water temerature?

Does anyone know off hand the average water temperature coming IN/OUT of the torch

a lot of variables, I realize.... But On AVERAGE.

    thanks.

For me it's room temperature out and return is up to ~140 F if I'm running hotter, 150-200 amps. It's probably more like 100-110F at 100 amps. My flow is also probably on the low end so it runs a little hotter due to that. Room temp for me runs from 45F in the winter to 90F in the summer.

I don't have numbers for you, but my CK superflex hoses never got hotter than lukewarm to the touch. So maybe 100-ish degrees?

I haven't measured. When I first bought my present welder I was welding aluminum near every evening. Might weld an hour at a time at 150 amps or more. When I first got it, the cooler was back ordered. I wasn't going to wait 2 weeks to try the welder. I hooked it up to the sink water. I didn't bother to pipe it back to a drain, it just piddled into a bucket. It's a while ago now, but if I recall correctly, it took most of an hour to fill the bucket. It was warm to the touch, not hot, maybe 110 F.

    Tig Cooler water temerature?

    Not a big deal
I was putting together this cooler and ran low on tubing...
had some other clear 5/16" tubing... rated at 175°

but I reconfigured things and I'm set with the HD hose

    was just curious

The clear 5/16" tubing will work but will balloon a bit more than the one with braided reinforcement, so it loses a little pressure.

    I disagree.
I think at the standard pressure that a water cooler runs/50 psi
There is absolutely no ballooning or expanding of the line.
The water pisses out the end of the hose… no expanding whatsoever.

That said, as far as torch lines
Yes there is some expanding of the line due to the pressure but it really doesn’t affect the flow.
(especially with these super flex lines)
    Edit

I am more concerned with lines that will fit properly and with stand moderate heat.

I’ve got some braided reinforced line but it’s overkill
And frankly ridiculous for this application.

If you were talking about a closed pressurized system, yes I understand about expanding lines etc. etc.

But for a TIG cooler, there is no pressurization of the line

    It’s basically in and out.

You can have your exit hose dump out into the open air and your pump will still maintain the same pressure

I would be very surprised if you ever had a tube failure associated with pressure or heat. I don't believe it takes more than a few pounds to push coolant through a torch. I also don't think coolant gets very hot.

Well yeah that was Like my original question..

Maybe I will buy one of those temperature sensors with the probe and mount it on this new refurbished re-constitutionalized revamped cooler.

It’s pretty cool to just glance at it and know that the water is flowing
Might be just as cool to glance over and see what the temperature is.

It couldn’t hurt and also a heads up to shut things down.

I just replaced 25’ torch lines.
    Not cheap.

Especially when it’s beyond your control and it’s out of warranty to boot.

I'm just going by what I see when I turn on the cooler and can visually see the lines expand just a smidge.

Run your tig on DC at over 200A continuously over 5 minutes and report back. It's not too "hot", but it does get very warm, so I guess it depends on the cooler and ones perception of what is "warm" and what is "hot".

I bought a 1984 Dialarc 250HF with cooler. One evening I was wet. Warm water was coming from somewhere! A couple drops at first, then more. It proved to be the torch plugged, the supply hose failed. It was old. I went after the torch with several cleaning methods, never had a problem again.

    .
    WHAT LINES?
The internal lines coming from the pump to the torch in/out? and the radiator in/out?????
    If so, I call BS

I have the same cooler, those lines DO NOT flex.

If you are talking about the CK torch lines, Yes.. they will expand.
But it does not have an effect on overall flow.

Yes, those same lines, the ones inside the cooler. I guess it's just my cheap chinese hose replacements that flex, I dunno. So yours are better than mine; I can accept that.

My lines are the stock HTP lines.
    braided 8.5mm lines.

less than 30PSI is not flexing those lines.

When I built my cooler I found info the showed the flow rate, don't remember what it was. But something like how long it took to flow X water verse time. The ProCon pump has a by-pass for adjusting the flow.

    PROCON vane pump...

You need pressure and flow that a pond pump simply cannot deliver...

Your best bet is a vane pump like a PROCON carbonator pump..that makes 50-60 PSI & flows 3-4 Quarts per minute...

Here is a build thread you might find helpful..

Procon makes pumps specifically for TIG welder‘s you can find them on the arczone site.
    That said,
You can most definitely use a carbonator pump, but you will need to swap out the bypass spring.

If you don’t you will blow the hoses right off your tig torch.

I am using a carbonator pump on mine
I called procon and they sent me the proper spring free of charge.

Whether lines expand or not would neither affect the flow or pressure.

The lines expanding only happens once initially after that nothing is different.

A expanded line would flow MORE if anything.

    It has larger I.D. Lol.

Coolant going in at room temperature

Coolant can get up to 250f or so on the return, no need for a temp guage, you can feel the boiling coolant when its time to back off

If it's that hot I'd say there is something wrong.
