Sorry to hear about Carl. Yes, he was the real deal. I recall hearing that his wife had some problems a year or so back (stroke? cancer?). Is she still ok or have they both left us? He was a great guy.

His was a full life, lived well. Is it more sad to end a good life, or end a wasted life?

He will be missed by us, but to his family & close friends I'm sure it is a crushing blow.

    Rest In Peace Carl.

So sad to hear this, CEP must have been a real gentleman in real life.
On here he was full of experience and knowledge, and he had such a nice gentle way of putting it across.

He will be missed on here, and no doubt missed a lot more in real life. RIP.

JAS, even though this is sad news thank you for letting us all know. Hopefully CEP's passing was peaceful. I am sure this is a great loss to his family and many friends. I did not know him personally but spoke with him here a few times and his helpfulness and knowledge was remarkable. Please pass my condolences on to his family and friends.

A man with a thousand pictures! Carl was like the best friend you never met. I came back on the forum hoping to catch up with him but was about a month after his last post. He went out of his way to help people and will be dearly missed by all. He spent his own money and time to do experiments to show the differences in rods and machines. He even sent equipment to the likes of "Lance" when he seemed like he wanted to get into welding. He bought an Everlast welder just to try it out. He bought some 6013 to do bend tests when I suggested it. He thanked me after seeing how bad they were. There are not enough words to describe what a great man he was!!!

Thank you JAS for posting this. Do you know how old he was?

I think most us kinda expected this was coming, now we know. Noone wants to suffer or be bed ridden, if that was the case. Sorry, but hopefully he and his family are more at ease.

A man of unquestionable character, willing to help anyone who would appreciate it. My sense of his personality was a grumpy old man, like ALL of the older men I respected & loved from my youth. A bit gruff, candid in his words, a wealth of knowledge & experience, he was willing to share to enrich the life of a younger person.

Sad to hear of his passing. Reminds us all of how fickle and fragile life is. If you ever get the chance to meet someone make sure you do....it might change your life.

The same happened to me, I saw the post and knew. I searched for him just the other day to see if he's been around but couldn't find much of anything... Catching up with him and others played a big part in coming back to ww and spending so much time here recently. RIP Carl (Cep)

I was just wondering if his grandson from his daughter is still welding and if he will be getting some of Carl’s tools. Sure would be nice if his family is well off enough that they don’t need to sell all his hobby toys.

This thread makes me wonder of another good ol hand that once graced WW. Sundown. He wasn't always so gentle in his approach but he was golden nonetheless. Helped me out several times even went so far as mailing me some solarflux in a pinch. Some of the more seasoned tradesmen tend to get tired of the seemingly endless BS less experienced people taut as the gospel. We all need to take this situation and others like it as a reminder to be kind and helpful to others. Also be willing to pass on your skills and knowledge. I for one will help anyone anytime. I often think and wish I had a young person near me interested in learning a valuable skill set as I'd love to pass my often taken for granted knowledge and skills on so some part of it and myself will live forever.

I'm saddened to hear of Carl's passing, I know he had been missing from the web for quite some time, possibly since the last crash. He offered a wealth of knowledge and expertise for a "hobbyist", I loved seeing his pictures & reading of the jobs he'd done, actually his "hobbyist" work makes the crap I've been guilty of almost professional work, HA, HA! RIP buddy & condolences & prayers for you family & loved ones.

Cep. Like most retired welders loved to share his lifetimes experience of work and projects he had worked on
with photos. And share his vast collection of welders and equipment. I found him very sincere with his answer
to a question. He wasn't a know it all with a ready made answer to every question
    Welding web will miss him.

I think it thrilled Carl to be able to share his knowledge and wisdom and the people he helped were also thrilled to learn from a true craftsman and artist. If I had a bucket list one of the 1st things on it would have been to visit Carl at his shop. It would probably be hard to leave and I'd be in awe of not only his array of equipment but his humble approach as just a hobbyist. Pretty hard to get under his skin and anything negative just rolled off his back like water on a duck. It is really sad to hear of his passing but comforting to know how many people he touched with his generosity and kindness.

Years ago over I had questions about the Lincoln LN 25 feeders and their flux core guns.

Through the TBN (TractorbyNet) forum, Carl DM'ed and subsequently emailed me everything I needed to know and more.

I'm glad he had the time he did to build and enjoy his hobby shop.

    RIP Carl.

His 100 ton overhead crane was awesome! I'm sure a lot of double takes on that.
