    Weld Symbol Confussion

    Hi Guys,

I've been working from welding drawing for a while and have the basics covered but I have come across something that means nothing to me.

From the picture I have attached, I can see that the weld is fully around on the side of the arrow with a 4mm Bead.

But what on earth does 4 PL on the tail of the symbol mean?? The only thing I can think of is Pitch and Length... Would this mean intermittent welding of 4mm on then 4mm off? It seems like an odd thing to want.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance :-)

4 places .....maybe? Is there four similar situations or joints in that area of the drawing? It's a poor way to represent it if it is, I've seen it written as "Typ., 4 places"..............Mike

    Places! of course.

    Your a genius Mike. Thankyou.

There are 4 corners to the component.

I'd say 4mm weld size in 4 places. Contact the engineer and ask for an interpretation if there are not 4 weld joints.

I would think a TYP would be noted, not a 4PL.. but the notes in the tail usually have to be communicated between all parties involved, ''engineers'' like to make stuff up lmao.

You will find draftsman and engineers will goto a welding chart and pick one that is close to what they want.
