    Stel S300 on a 400V, 3-phase up-converting transformer

Christmas comes early. Received my Stel S300 plus a mystery box

Conductors are tiny! Very little amperage needed.

Checking the voltages. Nicely balanced, coming from the 3-phase transformer that is being fed from the 30HP rotary phase converter

Can't wait to put it through it's paces.

Stel rates the machine to be able to use 8mm (5/16") carbons.....hmmm

    what do y'all think?

How much will it draw on the single phase side of the phase
converter if you run the welder wide open?

Not sure. I don't have a setup to measure it atm.

opened it up to blow out the dust. Fully enclosed "wind tunnel" design. I like it.

    Beefy.
Really? You expected to have a dust problem in a brand new welder? SMH. I would respect you more if you just said "I wanted to see what it looked like inside".

It was a combination of both because the times I do metalwork, it is inside my closed garage so there's plenty of fine dust floating around. In those pics I already blew out the little dust that had gotten inside. I didn't realize I had explain my each and every decision that goes with my thoughts.

Looks like it could be made in any place in the world. Just by layout alone. Top exposed horizontal board is pretty standard old school inverter design, and side mounted capacitor,s without much holding them on the board, looks a little suspect to drop damage.. Of course this will be fine if only sitting in a garage.. I guess everything is built to a price point and what gets you by.. Look at a Hypertherm 45xp, and you can tell there was a lot of thought in making a very nice designed inverter.. (IMO)

Your the only person I know that has 400V-3phase in the USA. Did you get that through HTP or directly from Stel?

    Re: Stel S300 on a 400V, 3-phase up-converting transformer

    I actually have 3-phase in 208V, 240V, 400V, 480V, & 600V. The multi-tap transformer I have simultaneously up- and down-converts with all taps hot at all times.

I asked HTP to special-order me this welder. I love being different.

    That transformer cost a lot.
