I've wanted to learn how to weld for a long time but never took the plunge. About a week ago I noticed some rust bubbling along the rear wheel well (I think that's what it's called). I researched how to repair rust damage on vehicles online and ordered a bunch of supplies (bondo, spreaders, matching vehicle paint, etc.). Well after removing the paint with wire brush I discovered the rust damage goes completely through both layers of the sheet metal and someone tried to repair it in the past with bondo. Looks like they failed to remove/inactivate the rust though so I cut out the affected metal.

I have no clue how to weld but I'm hoping, with enough trial and error/practice, I will eventually become a passable welding hack.

Oh didn't realize you're from VA too. I'm near Quantico MCB. You wouldn't happen to know of welding courses/classes in VA would you? I've been trying to find some online but haven't been successful so far.

Not near you,john tyler community college in chester does but they're about an hour to hour and a half from you.

yeah I know where Chester is. I wish they had weekend courses for just hobby level GMAW/FCAW aspiring welders.

I have a regular job plus an metal art business that keeps me decently busy. Realistically, a day or so between Halloween and Christmas is about all that I can spare. After the New Year, I should have a little time.
I have a MIG welder for steel and then a TIG that I use on steel, aluminum and stainless.

I am a decent welder and have taught some co-workers welding classes.

That sounds great, thanks. It's better than nothing lol. I've contacted the VA School of Metal in Troy, VA but haven't heard anything from them yet. I may have to start calling welding businesses near me to see if they would teach me a few things in exchange for free labor or payment.

There are a couple of shops near me or in Fredericksburg, but I am not familiar with the ones in Stafford.
My suggestion would be to drive to your nearby shops and see them in person.
A lot of places are busy right now and dying for help. But they don't have time to waste on fly by night people or ones they get the wrong impression about.
In person shows them you are serious and you then get a chance to see the shop, work environment, equipment they use and the people.
