    I was just quoted $450 for a 250 pound sheet of 1/8" x 60" x 120". Works out to $1.80 or so a pound.

    Dave,

Milk used to cost about $0.30 a gallon and gas was $0.32 a gallon when I grew up.

Welcome to 2021. Everything cost less years ago.

Those prices you used to pay are irrelevant to today's market.

Steel cost $0.08 per pound in 1960.
The cheapest gasoline I purchased was in riverside CA for $0.25 per gallon.

    I just keep going up.
I am happy I purchased a lot steel in 2018 for hobby work just before I retired (order by my doctor ok it was disability)

    Re: 911!!!

Back when I was younger and just starting out as a hobby welder I bought a 4x8 sheet of 1/4” plate. I was shocked at the cost, so I remember it to this day. $75! Man,oh man, how I wish things were that expensive now. I have had several loads on the trailer this year that were disappointingly smal for several thousand dollars.

Yep, I stocked up on a few sheets of 18 to 22 gauge back when it was around $60/sheet... not much more than plywood really. Sure wish I'd bought more now...

    Re: 911!!!

I've been whittling down my stash of 10 gauge from 2010. Ten 4x8 sheets sheared in half lengthwise for the trailer roll up side idea I abandoned.

Don't know what I paid back then as it's one of those things you delete from memory when you once again realize you're not nearly as smart as you think you are
