Re: Buried Dad Today
Condolences from our family to yours. Prayers of peace and understanding. The being that we see, touch and speak to is missing however, the memories are yours forever.

Re: Buried Dad Today
There are so many people here with dementia, and I think a lot has to do with all the changes to their day to day lives. The phone systems, the cell phones, the little local shops all closing up and now there is just one big giant confusing shop that does not know you, or what you do in your area, and they really do not care about you. My dad was retired and did more welding than a lot of full time welders. He taught a lot of young kids to weld and did a lot of volunteer work. He had hundreds of certifications. He welded up a lot of boxes for sporting equipment for the different police departments sporting leagues. And a lot of other stuff. But I could see him struggle as he kept losing one good supplier after another.
Sincerely,
William McCormick

It is kind of funny but just a week and a half a ago he was in rehab, I went to see him because they said he took a turn for the worse and he was going to pass soon. So I went up to see him and I was just talking to him because he could not talk. I was talking about all the stuff he taught me and had brought home from Grumman to show me, I told him that as far as I was concerned he was the best dad there was. I see movement under the sheet, he is giving me the jerk off sign by just moving his hand up and down, haha. He was still in there. Anytime you try to give an Irish father a compliment they will do something like that and then tell you how if I am so great why don’t you do what I asked you to do, about something or other, haha.
Sincerely,
William McCormick
That does sound rougher than I thought. Also rough for you/family to see him in that condition. Sounds like he could hear/understand you, and never lost his sense of humor.
Well, you hate to see it end, but it sounds like it was time, as I dont think anyone wants to live like that

Re: Buried Dad Today
Your love, admiration, and respect for your father are very apparent, and I'm sure he was not only well aware but the feeling was mutual. He sounds like a good man, which is all the best of us could ever hope to be.
My mother suffered some serious cognitive issues before her passing, and it is something you would not wish on your worst enemy. No loss is easy, but I'm also sorry he and those who loved him had to suffer such a terrible disease - the only comfort is that now he is at peace - and hopefully those who loved him can find some peace in that.
My deepest condolences for your loss.

BTW Bill.............we're probably both candidates for Alzheimers, you and me. Runs in families, despite a lot of people denying that their kin weren't right at the end. And....we live long enough these days for the eventual onset of Alzheimers........it's just a fact of life.
You take care.

I don’t know about you sam but I have never been right in the head, so maybe nothing will change, haha.

Re: Buried Dad Today
Our condolences Bill, my wife's mom had Alzheimers and passed in 2010, she had progressed to the point of having established route when she drove in our small town. We got a call from her neighbor that couldn't get her to answer the phone or door, I literally had to break in thru the screen door, she had a hook on it & it was snug. Thank God she passed before it got worse, it's a horrible, horrible disease. Hang in there, it will get easier. Again, our condolences & prayers.

Re: Buried Dad Today
Mr McCormick...
Im sorry to hear about your dad, he must have been a good man. My condolences and prayers are with you and your famly.
I couldnt go to be with my dad when he passed...I was scared to death at 45 years old that I would not recover from it, i just couldnt deal with the fact he was going to go and didnt want to remember him in the condition he was in, I wanted to remember him as the tough old cuss that raised me and taught me.
God Bless You sir
