Seems to me you fellas are overthinkin this. I know nothing about tig welding but my son in law is a union pipe hand and has is his own side gig goin as well. Ive seen him and quite a few pipe hands many times over the years sharpen their tungsten on a 4 inch grinder and get after it again.

I have had a 6x48 belt sander/grinder for about 8 years. It is great. I wanted the versatility of a 2x72 and wish I had bought it earlier.

I prefer a stone or diamond wheel for sharpening my tunks. Belts wear and if you want to experience any kind of excitement, just wait until your tunk bites a belt.
If you're on the road and need a portable (or just want a bad *** tunk grinder) the only way to go is with the Scottsman Tools grinder.
Otherwise, a 6" or 8" with the proper stone or diamond is all I use.

I need a proper tungsten grinder that allows me to use a few different angles.

asking about sharpening tungsten is about the same as asking what type of oil to use in your car....

everyone has a different opinion.

If your doing non precision work, just about anything will work (on the cheap)

for me, I bought a 110v handheld grinder from arc-zone..... Its within hands reach of the welding table.

for me it's about convenience. and each grind is identical.

So first, I agree,,, Way Too Much is made of all this, the "angles" and finish and all.

Over 10 yrs ago, I went to Harbor Freight and bought their cheapest 4-1/2 grinder on sale for $9.99. Down the aisle found their Circular Saw Sharping kit ($13.00) and robbed the, double sided, 80gr 4-1/2" Diamond wheel from it, and put the two together.

I think way too much made of tig to start with. Before a beginner even strikes any kind of arc he has 1000 tig questions. The spool gun has retired my tig and the times i really need it has been few and far between. 1000's and thousands of stick and wire welds for 1 tig. I can usually figure out some way to do it, its not that i cant,, it does have its place, good trade or job shop skill.
