Keep it on the shelf and it'll still be there the day you die.

Get rid of it today and guaranteed you will need it tomorrow.

I got more free stuff from the compound pharmacy that closed up

The cabinet with slide out trays will be used to house my cordless Makita tools and chargers.

I still have to wire the cabinet for power etc.

The Makita rep is swinging by next week with signage and my pick of any merchandising stuff I can use for storage.

A retired Makita rep for the island bought an old table saw I restored. He told the new fella about my shop and they both drop by occasionally

Most of my free stuff is from one of my yard tenants who does commercial tenant improvements.

I get my pick of stuff destined for the dumpster. Lots of new stuff. Especially lately with business Covid victims

The Makita cordless tool storage now has power. Lol

And I found a part sheet of some type
of flooring with a white finish for the wall which saved me from having to paint. Only had to cut to size and peel the plastic protective film off.

I asked my realtor to find me a piece of land recently. Something still close to my local beaches, 5 to 10 acres, fully wooded, outside city limits, no HOA, both residential and industrial zoning.

This is what I have in mind. Shop with "living quarters". All metal and concrete building. No more termite loving wood framing and shingles that only last 10 years.

Re: Post your Dream Shop layout

My dream shop would have an overhead gantry crane that could get to every part of the floor. The uses for a gantry crane are unlimited, as long as you have the load capacity. Ideally something like a 5 tonner that could pick up and move machines around as well as materials...
I'd have the living/office quarters pushed to one side of the shop on ground and 1st floor, with internal storage balcony so the crane could lift stuff up and down from there if needed also.

    Sounds good.
I had a 9 ton forklift it move almost everything. But would buy plate at 20 tons FYI I had cut plate for unloading

I found a hoist or forklift is never to small.

Re: Post your Dream Shop layout

Overhead gantry crane AND a forklift would be pretty much ideal.

I've been spoiled. Always had a shop, rough terrain forklifts and several truck mounted forklifts...

Now that I'm retired I only have my shop forklift.

My wish list today (in retirement) would be a short one or two ton flatdeck with crane.

I remember when my Dad's uncle and his buddy were in their 80's. They mounted a light hand winch crane in the back of a 60's IHC pickup to scrounge scrap iron for fun. Twisted the snot out of that poor little pickup box... it was constantly overloaded...

I talk to farmers with 5 ton Hydraulic hoist and still too small. They rated 5 tons at 3 foot but boom out it drops.

Moving ag equipment is hard to do with a truck hoist. I like a tow forklift at least 6,000 pounds. But still ag equipment will go over that limit too.

    Dave

PS: I found ag equipment that was over 20,000 pounds

My tractor trailer was a max axel weight 12,000 pounds and put over 13,000 pounds on the trailer witch would bring the axel weight over 20,000 pounds.

Re: Post your Dream Shop layout

All I want these days is capacity to pick up items too heavy to handle alone (away from shop).

Not a problem once I get it home as a forklift is quicker in most cases.

I always say when I win the lotto I will purchase a mini telehandler for the yard.

Not likely to happen as I don't buy lotto tickets.

LOL. If I'm still around when you're 80 I'll come out and spend a week with you picking up scrap.

Heck. I'll even supply the "drinks"

2-3 times a week I used to stack Super B flat deck trailers for the return trip on the ferry to save per foot $ charges.

    No pics but Google image

Couldn't find a decent cheap used BIG forklift with 8 foot forks. I used an R/T forklift on each side and had to back the trailer under it.

Kinda dangerous and time consuming. Geez. The things we've all done....

Had to do a cleanup today. As you can see setting up or dismantling pallet racking by yourself is way easier and safer with a lift truck.

Of course it's way quicker with two men but I've pretty much run out of anyone that wants to work with me
