Fleet's Wood Shop -- an exercise in organization and design.

If you've not seen Doug Fleet's Texas shop, you really need to take a minute and marvel at what he's done.

No doubt about the man's skills, that for sure. Thought I do mostly metal work, and not very much good at that, Doug's shop is full of ideas for keeping things organized and easy to find.

I've often cautioned folks to use their shops as a canvas to showcase their skills, and Doug's basically the epitome of that. Truly amazing to see the level of detail he's gone in to for even the most mundane things. Of course, it's a good idea to do projects like this because you get the chance to learn new skills and techniques.

This is something I might actually be able to accomplish on my own. I've long disliked the organizers you can buy at the store and this idea seems pretty reasonable in terms of skill required. Famous last words, I know!

I really enjoyed seeing this guy’s shop, but it seems more of a museum than a working shop. Wow, at the collection and organization.

I would like to see what he builds in there. Must have a lot of employees, half of them are cleaning, labeling, and putting away stuff.

    Thank you Vaughn for posting.

Sorta makes me want to give up.

Yea, the guy's amazing for sure. Even when he makes a simple workbench, he's gotta dress it up with some inlays!

From what i gather, he's not a professional cabinet maker or the like. He owns his own construction company and does HVAC work, or did, and just has the wood shop for fun as much as anything else.

If Doug's videos are good for anything, imo, it's helping me come up with a whole slew of justifications for my mess.

    I gotta work all day...

    I ain't rich.....

    I work metal, not wood....

    I don't live in Texas....

Lots of reasons why my shop isn't nearly as nice, and none of them my fault!
