    Crawler007's random welding projects

    Hi All,

Thought I would share some of my projects here, I just like to build stuff and most of the time it's project's for me so not making money at this (actually costing myself money lol) its all in fun. So please don't take any of this to serious, I sure don't!

Well I bought a new to me 50yr old mill and decided to try a small firts project so I came up with this, I still have a brass weight to add to the pointer but its 90% finished.

I was eyeing up that hammer looking part too... my best guess is a third hand to hold things down while he's welding..

Yes, I would say a third hand welding thingy too. At first I thought it was a stand for a dial indicator.

    Very nice..

Nothing like mill or lathe to help us spend 10x the time making tools.

    I understand...

Better than spending 10x the money for a tool not worth it's price.

Did you make a tool to radius the ends? Looks like you practiced a lot of techniques on your mill.

    It's a fancy "third hand"

you know, one of the first welding projects you make.....

Then it sits on a shelf forever, never used.

    looks cool though.

I have a gadget that looks like it that holds a dial gauge. Magnetic base--pretty handy...

Don’t you hate it when the garbage men leave the lid open on the can…. I know I do so, did something about it.

that severed arm extra hand would make a good toolbox warning sign against those that "borrow" your tools and "forget" to bring them back. Jim

Is the spring on your lid light enough to allow the garbage to fall out when they dump them over the truck? How automated is your pickup system? The one thing more annoying than open lids might be garbage cans that don't get emptied.

    Re: Crawler007's random welding projects

They don't use the type of truck that garbs the can and lifts it above the truck and dumps it, if we did Im sure this spring would be light enough to work with that too. Our guys just flip the lid open and pull the bags out and toss them into the truck. They will still be able to do the job they will just have to hold the lid with one hand and reach into the can with the other to grab the bags (I tried it out, its no problem) I didnt want to make there life any harder than it needs to be. I just dont want a trash can thats full of trash smelling water, leaves and racoons.

    Re: Crawler007's random welding projects

Well,my boy bought a new to him 07 KX250 and wouldn’t you know it when he got it home the crankcase had a big crack…..

    So we disassembled it

And split the case to get to the crack just below the crank.

Took a carbide bit to the cracks and edges inside and out

Welded it up inside and out, used 4043 filler and it seemed to work pretty good.

    And cleaned up the inside

Never welded a case before, hopefully it hold up…

    Re: Crawler007's random welding projects

My dads getting older but he still likes to go out kayak fishing with me. Our kayaks loaded up are quite heavy and some of the launches here in WV are really steep and it’s hard to load the kayaks up at the bottom of the steep ramp. So I added a latch system to his bed extender, it’s not finished I still need to build a pivot so it can swing right and left and lock in the strait on position for hauling.

I’ll get more pics once I get the materials I need to make the pivot.
