Did Miller ever make an equivalent to the SAE welders?

I haven't used a three phase engine welder. Theoretically, three phase source with capacitors, then rectifier should be steady. Old engine welders were equivalent to multi phase power source, but newer have capacitors should even out the power flow.

Old machines had a good deal more rotating mass to power through the sudden load events. They had more torque in the engine, & more horsepower to maintain the power in the stinger.

Just me guessing here.

My diesel Miller has rectified 3-phase AC and it's as smooth as any SA200 I've ever used, although I don't have much arc time on those, and much more on the Miller.

With the different taps offering different V-A curves, you can get everything from lots of dig (for deep 6010 roots for example) to lots of buttery smoothness for 7018, or anything in between. It's the nicest arc of any welder I've ever used.

If you put some of these machines behind the wall where they couldnt be seen the amount of people could tell them apart is wayyyyy fewer and far between than people think they could. Not saying there isnt a difference for certain specialists but i know a couple guys carry the machines and even work in the trade that would have trouble welding themselves in a box let alone a pipe.
Some of the best could under some conditions. But for general work doesnt mean squat.

The only time the SA200 did not sound good was inside a concrete building with steel deck floors overhead. I actually muffled mine for that job.

All I know about my diesel is it's freakin LOUD. If it's turned on, it's running 1850. I swear sometimes I hear that 1850 drone in my dreams.
