    $2000 for a Welder..... GO!

If you had $2000 and had to buy 1 welder, what would it be?

I have a Lincoln 210mp, it covers most of the basic processes. It is a mig welder with other functions. None of the others are as good, but you have them. I don't tig with anymore, but it works for me.

I can not begin to choose a welder, until I know the direction in which your welding interests "lean",,

    Repair farm equipment, STICK WELDER,,

Rebuild an antique or race car, TIG WELDER

Production of railings, or other steel stuff for sale, MIG WELDER

Flimsy neeew (eeew) cars, RESISTANCE SPOT WELDER

Instrumentation and sensors for an aircraft jet engine, LASER OR ELECTRON BEAM WELDER

Others can add the types of welders that I skipped, some of those welders are a dollar or two over $2,000,,,

Today I do all my welding with flux core.
In past I did most welding with stick but flux core is a lot faster than stick.

For most of my TIG work I would still use O/A torch. There are a lot jobs today that band any type of arc welding.

Is this for your education and future machine purchase or just a fun game on who would buy what if they had an extra $2k itching to burn a hole in their pocket?

Lincoln Powering 210 MP or a Miller Multimatic 215. I mean I already made the same decision but with double the budget.. I ditched my syncrowave and MM252, and got a Multimatic 255. I couldn't be happier.

You're over-budget by $300, so disqualified by default! jk

Seems like just a fun game, but nothing wrong with that as 2021 has seen lots of changes mainly with pricing and availability (no, I'm not trying to go political as to why, just mentioning a simple, straight-foward fact that has nothing more embedded other than face value! ). It sucks that what you used to be able to get for $2k you now have to pay $2500-$3000 just in the span of 12-18months. Oh well, the world keeps turning.

Yeah I think so. There's just something nice about a 300 amp MIG welder. You can do so much more than the 200 amp machines and not give up anything on the bottom end. It will run metal core, gas shielded flux core, spray 045 hard wire, etc. Smaller welders don't handle these well. I haven't gotten enough seat time with the pulse MIG feature to tell you my opinion yet. The TIG works with the torch, pedal and cooler I had on my Syncrowave. I get pulse but I lose AC TIG which doesn't bother me, I never used it.I like the stick welder a lot too. Very adjustable with arc force and hot start. When I picked this unit up in June, the price difference between this and the MIG only unit was only $500. So I essentially paid $500 for a good DC TIG/stick welder. Seems like a bargain to me

Within those parameters, I’ll take a Millermatic 211. It’s a little less than 2000, but it’ll leave a bit extra to spend on consumables.
