    Went in to the store

Tractor supply could take some lessons from these guys. I couldnt believe all the stock, would take an hour or more just to sift thru all the welders. I was in TSC bout an hour earlier, was absolutely pitiful and left without buying anything.

It's in the Harbor Freight forum so I'm guessing Harbor Freight.

They have some tools you just can't find off the shelf anywhere else, unless you get extremely lucky.

Automotive body tools, wheel balancer, bead breaker, metal bender come to mind. Throw in their pretty generous warranty on non electrical items and it's a lock.

Their jack and ram assortment is great as well, and like the welders, I haven't really heard anything bad about them.

I had to wait a few minutes today and had time to study the welders. If I was in the market for a new stick they had a 225 for 319$ DC DVI. I wonder how well it runs from 120 compared to my Max? Its top end is more, I was gonna look at electric input and I forgot.

I have a few sets of impact sockets I must have bought from them more than 40 years ago. I think they only had one outlet then, in the Southern California area, and they were shipped to me from there. They have held up well and were a decent price, but I don't recall coupons being used in those days.

I looked up the electric, seems to be a clone of the new Hobart in its class. I would like to try one on 120V to see how it runs against the Max.

You just reminded me of the set I bought about the same time. Still going strong.

Re: Went in to the store

The focus on the business strategy is so good. They been improving the tools along the way instead of Sears strategy of racing to the bottom. Price raises to get there have been rather modest, the amount of stock is increasing all the time. I remember TSC saying they wanted to sell more comps and welders, got to wonder how they were gonna do it. HF is getting better help, I dont pester them but had a couple come offer to help and not too stupid. I went to a real supply house in the same trip, got to wonder how they kept the doors open, 3 people absolutely picking their nose and still didnt have what I want. 300 jackets in the store and not one to fit me and I aint all that unusual. Help with finger in azz.
HF people all busy and helping customers.

Re: Went in to the store

Last couple times I been in one it was obviously well stocked, well staffed and well managed. Never know exactly what it looks like from the back but up front it was kind of impressive and having been in half a dozen similar stores that day it stood out.
