Tree on top of my shop

Built my shop a 30 x50’ red iron building 2 12’ bay doors, has a full bathroom as a retirement present to me about 6 year’s ago. Well a 100’ pine snapped about 5’ from the bottom during the high winds. State Farm is not the insurance company they used to be.

The building when it was new.

Lemme guess, in small print, unless it was a spruce tree, it happened on a full moon with the wind from the NNE and on a Tuesday night the insurance denied the claim...........Mike

Just keep bugging your claim adjuster be annoying but nice we have state farm and one of our tennents burned down one of our rental doublewides. It took us a year but we just got a check for the whole amount of the policy after their initial offer of half. of course we cant replace the house with a new one at these prices but that’s on us for not raising our coverage as replacement costs went up. they spiked so fasdt we didnt get them raised

Don't settle for the initial offer. Hold out for what it's actually gonna cost to fix it. If no progress, hire a lawyer. Remember, a lawyer is bad for both sides......they'll run the claim up, or you'll have to settle for the same amount you could have negotiated by yourself.......less 1/3.

They don't sell insurance because they want to lose money. It's an ugly game, with you in the middle. I hope it goes well, REALLY.

Looks to have bent the corner beam, the roof and wall beams at site of impact, a bunch of wall an roofing panels, water in the insulation. Buckled a couple of beams in the next bay.

When first working with father we did jobs like. It was bread 🍞 and butter 🧈.

If in my town that only take day to fix like new. 👍. It typically it the siding it biggest due to the shipping cost. 🚢.

I did that work into the 1980's. It great work we just need more storms.

I appreciate everyone an I apologize for being grumpy, but I’m am old and aggravated. 15 years ago if this had hit a house they would have had crews out already cleaning up. Guess customer service is a thing of the past.

    edit:

The tree guys are great. They got it all cleaned up and took down the red oak in the front.

Don't even need to buff,, simply apply this, it will make it look perfect.

The stuff makes guns look perfect, it should work here,, you may need a gallon,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it is moisture-proof,,,,,

My daughter has a building like that,, I worry EVERY time the wind blows,, and we are getting 55MPH gusts right now.
I KNOW what will happen,,, "DAD!,, can you come over and fix my building!!??"

I am 72 YO,, and I would probably still do it,,,,,,

In California they paid fast after every storm.

Rather than try to fix it,, improve it,,

Tear off the bent parts, add a sunroom that partially reaches back on the roof.

Ahhhhhh,, a place to recline,, in peace,, now as THAT tree is gone,,,,,,,,

Re: Tree on top of my shop

Guess customer service is a thing of the past.
Explain the concept 'customer service', especially to the young punks companies have working at 90% of the places now days. Even places like Mcd's it's like they're doing you a favor, the word 'pardon?' has been replaced with 'WHAT?" in between gum smacks. My kids are now 36 and 38, if they had ever talked to someone like that they'd get a slap upside the head.
Last week I had all my internet dealings hacked, bank, Amazon, email etc and I've had to deal with more people than I care to deal with in a year. Customer service means being on hold for over 2 hours and ending up talking to someone you can't understand. Only place I actually talked to someone without waiting and I could understand was the bank.
Sorry to hi-jack ur thread, good luck with your dealings and repair.............M

    TRUE!

just went through this last week. Literally impossible to get a human being on the phone at XFinity/comcast
The only way is to repeatedly yell CANCEL SERVICE to the automated voice.
we sat on hold multiple times.... finally the wife left her cell phone on hold and drove down there and raised hell.....

finally got it sorted and a $100 credit to boot. customer service on the phone is a joke.

Is that the one in front of the door?

That tree would drive me nuts.

I would have dropped that one when I cleared the lot for the building.

at least the building damage is on the back side.

Any time I have to call "customer non-service", when they might ask "How can I help you?", I tell them NO, (if I get to talk to a human) please connect me with your supervisor who speaks English....usually saves one long hold on the phone.

Re: Tree on top of my shop

Used to able to call my insurance agent at home, he was very personable, and a good friend to everyone he met. He retired, they split his accounts with other agents. My new agent was argumentative, asked if it was a commercial building, not very friendly at all, may be switching when this is over with. Tried to explain to them it was a steel building not a tube metal building. They still don’t understand the difference. I built this thinking it would never need any maintenance for the next 20 years.

Really loved the look of the red oak tree in front of the shop, have put deer stands there for my grandsons to get used to climbing, gonna miss it
