    That is to bad.
When doing that type of repair work I had either the owner or the insurance company call to go look job.
The type of insurance work I did was metal buildings and servistations. The insurance companies call me 10 years after I stop the work.

Any time I had to get a quote they give me list.
But was not metal buildings it was auto's.

It is alway possible your insurance company does have some one doing this type of work.

The insurance company want me to other jobs I said "I do not do work any more and this a friend's and did charge him".

Wish you were a little bit closer, California is a little bit of a ways off from GEORGIA. A contractor just left said he could handle it no problem, and will have me a bid by Monday.

    I agree

Now wait for the sticker shock.
For me it 2 day with 2 guy and about $1,000.00 to buy the materials .
This could lot less if I could buy the covering in town.

The covering and zee to be formed cost about $600.00 and $400.00 for shipping.

The adjuster arrived an hour late, did call and said he was running late. It was raining hard when he arrived he looked inside the building and said he had review the pictures we uploaded to the site. He was telling me he could find my light fixtures on eBay was able to show him the recipes from City Electrical, for the cost, and reminded him there has probably been a price increase in the past 6 years. He wasn’t really friendly.

The young friendly, happy ones are the guys that sell you the policy. When they get old and miserable they are demoted to adjusters.

The adjuster for metal buildings are never friendly. I think take adjusters how not friendly and move them to metal buildings

Yessir it took a while but they finally have paid just for the structural repair, not for the lighting or anything else.

So what's their excuse for not covering all damages less deductible?

Same thing I was wondering. Lemme guess, it wasn't part of the damage caused by the tree, the roof caving in caused it.............Mike

Would get banned if I told my thoughts, they finished the structural repair, still waiting on their electrical contractor to now come out and rehang all the lights. About ready to have my sons rehang em, at least then I know it will be correct. Still waiting on the inspector to show up to check this part off.

The building inspector finally showed up Tuesday afternoon, and didn’t whine about anything on the structural repair. Walked through the shop out the back door walked back in and checked it off said it looks good to him. Not how he acted when I built it. Still waiting on the electrical contractor.

Re: Tree on top of my shop

I cut down every tree in falling range of anything I care about. Trees only get worse and the taller they are generally the more hassle to drop.

I've seen too many homeowners let their trees overgrow then pay out the wazoo for an arborist. Since I work alone I attach a length of wire rope part way up the tree, hook that to my winch cable (so I can simply disconnect if it gets tangled) cut to holding wood with a slight "truck preload" then drive off. My cables are payed out longer than the tree is tall and a snatch block lets me change driving direction. A truck moves faster than a winch can spool so I can easily outrun the falling rate for long enough the tree goes where I command it. No need to trust gravity alone.

Trees are evil and belong in a sawmill. Generous firebreaks are also a wise idea.
