Why The Tire Scumbag Retired
Another parked tire delamination.
Absolutely no carcass thickness over the radial plies. Pure crap. And not cheap.
5yr old tire with less than 500 miles on it.
Word is the Fk retired...................I'd wager he had to quit the biz because people quit buying his trash.

Re: Why The Tire Scumbag Retired
I had a triaxle 9 ton. Only heavy duty tire I could find in the size were Blue Star (Chinese tire). Max load capacity at max inflation was 110 PSIG. Less than a year, 300 miles all 6 blew out the sidewalls. Tire dealer blamed me. I had asked for tubes as the trailer had a long history of losing air. I had to add air to tubeless each trip. I figured tubes would solve that problem.
Dealer claimed tubes kept them from dissipating heat.
Newer trailer has a different size tire, same load, again six wheels. 4 years no failures. Yes, these have tubes also.

These tires are made by Provider. About the best import trailer tire made. Notice that the tread is flat at 65psi.
Tire on left is cheap import(not cheap in price though)......rounded tread under full inflation(85psi). Tire on right is a Kelly made in USA........flatter tread profile(90psi).
The stock trailer had truck tires on it from the day I bought it about 25yrs ago, which were finally replaced 5yrs ago. American made truck tires that ran out of tread finally, and needed replacing.
If Provider makes this size, I'll have to order them. But I need the damn trailer on Monday. Luckily I staged the trailer on the driveway yesterday ahead of 2 major storms, and saw the damage before finding it on the day we need the trailer.
Tires that run at high inflation pressures need quality carcasses, otherwise the damn things eventually disintegrate just sitting parked................or worse.....when going down the highway.
Each of the Blue Star failed after an hour on 50 MPH speed limit highway. Load varied from 5000 pounds to 7 tons. In each case the bead would deform enough It popped off the wheel. Blow outs were incredibly loud.
This trailer got a full set of Carlyle brand 5 years before. I was at the time 1/2 owner. Other owner loaned the trailer out to a neighbor. It was towed 1500 miles with no load to speak of, with brake controller turned up to the max. At the end of the trip the tires were octagonal from all the flat spots. I thought the Blue Star would be an improvement....WRONG!

You get what you pay for. Spend the bucks for some load range E (I prefer Hankooks) & never look back.

The 14ply Hankooks seem to last good but i have alot better luck with used LT tires on my trailers. I bought a trailer with new trailer tires and most didnt make it 1000 miles. I havent looked but they i bet they are 3 years or older. When i can i will replace my tires with LTs .

Load range E(10 ply) is the standard 16" tire for these trailers. There's nothing lower rated available, never was. 10ply has always been the minimum standard. That's what's on all my 12,000# trailers.
I can get some Provider load range G 14ply for a buttload of bucks, but Provider also makes a load range E for a reasonable price(their economy tire). I did have a tire mounted by another outfit that guarantees the tires for a reasonable amount of time, but I can't remember the brand...........have to take a look this morning.
What sucks is..................................It'll take one animal to pay for the other 3 animals we're ready to ship Then we have to run to Kansas to pick up a bull. So, the cost of all the transactions has increased by between 6-900 f'n dollars
Radial tires simply don't last beyond a certain expiration date. They always come apart.
Nylon tires will virtually last forever, but you can't find them anymore.

I had the same experience with this trailer. The old LT's lasted forever. And they didn't have troubles with the sidewall like people like to say they do. I'm glad someone else has had the same experience as I did. I might just put some LT's on the thing again
Matter of fact, the Kelly tire on the bale trailer might just be an LT tire. It was a road service replacement on a trip back from Texas, so you get what the service truck brings.....no choice in the matter.

Re: Why The Tire Scumbag Retired
Let's face it..................trailers are made by crooks, with parts supplied by crooks. Cheap components, all below standard automotive specifications. So, why shouldn't ST tires be the same........crap tires just enough to get the chintzy trailers off the lot.

Re: Why The Tire Scumbag Retired
If you stop and think how many pickup tires have you had that seperated like a trailer tire will. A cheap LT will often run till it is showing wire a high dollar trailer tire will come apart at half tread. We built and use alot of trailer house axles and the one trip tires they come with. Those tires were better than most you buy today i can remember several of them losing there outer tread but staying up to make it home.

Re: Why The Tire Scumbag Retired
A friend of mine had a tandem axel 20 ft. trailer he used to haul his tractor and sometimes 6,000 lb. loads of gravel or coal. He had so many "trailer" tires go bad on the road, that he switched over to LT tires on the recommendation of the tire store he frequented...never had a failure after that for nearly 8-9 years and that was due to the trailer brakes wearing bald spots on the tires!

Re: Why The Tire Scumbag Retired
My business is very small. From my point of view, I buy a lot of tires, $3500. average per year. I found a tire dealer 50 miles away, a straight shooter. I felt confident. I could call him, then send my wife, or my daughter in law, they would be satisfied.
In September I needed a pair of rear tires for a newly purchased backhoe. I had recently bought a pair of rears, not the same size, for a backhoe I ended up selling before the tires were installed. I explained I had new tires I hadn't used, would he take them back? He was happy to do it. His truck picked up the unused tires, dropped off the new ones.
Billing didn't come from this vendor on a specific day of the month, it came when the bookkeeper got around to it. Two weeks went by, I got an unpleasant call from Pete's Tire. A very effeminate male voice informed me Rouse Tire had been bought by Pete's Tire. He wanted to know why I hadn't paid my bill. I responded that based on my phone call with John Rouse, I was waiting to hear what the difference was between the returned set & the new set. The new "person" assured me he was unaware of returned tires & unless I had documents to prove what John Rouse had agreed to, I owed full price.
Pete's is the company in another town that sold me the Blue Star trailer tires, all 6 exploded. Earlier they sold me a set of Uniroyal tires made the truck shake so bad I could see nothing in the mirrors. On another occasion they told me there was NO source for 10:00-20 truck tires, then I bought 4 in Maine, their brand. I've had my fill of Pete's & was surprised & disappointed to hear they bought out Rouse.
I was pissed at the attitude of the new manager. I would not have had to argue my situation with Rouse. I'd have been charged the difference in price of the tires. I told him I'd happily pay the difference, check with John Rouse. He was unwilling, insisted the burden of proof was on me. I suggested he sue me, & sent a check for the difference.
Next order, he informed me my account was closed, Pete's was not interested in doing business with me.

Re: Why The Tire Scumbag Retired
I’ve run LT tires on my road trailers for years. IMO they are an excellent option. Maxiss Commercial LT’s have served me well, as have Michelin LTX.
I used to replace the LTX tires 20,000 miles early on the Excursion and Duallys, and cycle the replaced tires onto one of my trailers. Never had a problem with this approach and I’ve hauled a lot of heavy loads.

Re: Why The Tire Scumbag Retired
Maybe I am missing something here...but you bought Chinese trailer tires, the most notorious of ALL tires for failing, kept them five years, they (of course) failed....and this is somehow the fault of the retired tire guy who sold them to you?

What a crock of ****
I really can't stand it when companies get too big for their own boots, and their customer service suffers. Happens all too often.

I feel that tire dealers specialize to some degree. Pete's is new to this area, (7 years). I drive past their Rutland facility often, they seem to specialize in trucks. Other dealers specialize in passenger cars. A few, like Rouse were three generation family owned. ALL the farmers in a 50 mile radius dealt with Rouse. Charlie Rouse, John's father often manned the service truck to mount tractor tires without removing them from the tractor. A successful businessman with an excellent reputation for customer service, all the farmers spoke highly of him. I found his son John to also be the owner of a great company to do business with. No bargains to be had, but satisfaction was near certain. I was sad to see them sell out to the chain company.
