No shelf going under it. It’s designed so that you can get a chair under it and sit at it like you would a desk.

I’ve seen guys make tables out of those before.
There is always the criticism that those are not dead nuts flat.

But it’s not like your building spaceships for NASA
It’s flat enough to get the job done.

    Anyway looks great.

It’s a surplus piece of boiler plate that I got from the oil and gas surplus store (a literal place a couple of hours from me).

It is pretty flat. If it’s got any bow at all it is less than a millimetre in any direction.

William. It's the twin to the glulam wood top one posted above....

I built identical bases with different tops

It's used to anchor my benders

Here's the wood top one ...

the big vise is perfect for "tweaking" pieces when the hydraulic press would be overkill.

Re: Stupidly overkill welding table project.

One thing I am going to do with the top of my table is to keep it clean and tidy is cover the bare top in dykem blue. It’s an old school trick that I’ve had a few old timers tell me about and TXSVIKING on YouTube does it as well.

Also I have welded a 304 stainless steel lug to the frame of the table for ground. I wanted something that would not rust causing a bad ground.

I've come to the conclusion that the best way to keep my tables and benches clean would be to make the tops so they held battery acid...

Just remember not to use as a dinning table after you are married.
It ok to use for dinning before marriage 💑.

I figured it out. You need to take some white paper and go around the shop and wipe it on some random surfaces. Whatever color the dirt is - paint your weld table THAT color.

    It'll always look clean!

Seriously, go with semi-gloss. Matte is harder to clean, and gloss shows imperfections more.
