    Mobile Tube Bender Stand

It’s way past time to make this, but I’m getting started on it. Often thought about adding a air/hydraulic ram. With my back it’s past time to add it. It’s too hot to work long at a time, well it is for me. Have the basic layout of the base, now I’m going to cool off a bit and then notch some tubes an maybe tack them. Here’s a pic of the base layout. Using 1 3/4” tube.

I feel yuh about the heat. It hit 102º yesterday and will hit 105º today. Luckily I finished early yesterday and today.

I like this idea looking forward to seeing it completed.

The so called thunderstorm never even sprinkled. Went back in the shop for a bit all I did in the heat was notched the base cross bars. Too hot to do much. Like eating an elephant one bite at a time.

Coping tubing is just about the hardest thing on the Planet for me. You're looking like it's coming along pretty good.

    Looking good

I avoid tubing projects like the plague. Not good at coping and not good at welding makes for a lot of aggravation. Square tube and butt joints for me. lol

Thought about square tube, and started a layout with some 2”. However it’s a round tube bender so let’s make it from round tube stock, the two legs of the base have 30 degree bends to give it a stable base. The center pole will have two supports with 30 degree bends. The bender is Woodward Fab manual I’m upgrading to air hydraulic and placing it in a vertical position. This will allow it to be mobile. Thinking of painting it in New Holland blue, well that’s whats on hand.

I use electrical EMT tubing bender.
Works great no electric required just pull the leaver.

    Re: Mobile Tube Bender Stand

I built a really nice small diameter carbon, and stainless, tube bender some years back. It's amazing the amount of force required to make bends in even small diameter tubing. Mine is what they call a draw bender. The most accurate, least deforming, type of design. Great for hydraulic tubing up to 1" diameter.

I used the Swagelok bench top bender as the basic design. Took a ton of effort to make, and get the angles right. If you have a mill, and lathe, the sky's the limit if you care to spend the time doing it.

It will bend water pipe the next size down.
A 3/4" emt bender will bend 1/2" IPS water pipe.
A 1" emt bender will bend 3/4" IPS water pipe.

A lot depends on the tubing itself. Some tubing is made to be bent............it's annealed. Hard tubing won't bend with any degree of success.

Nice work, the smallest steel tube I use is 1” the bender states it will bend up to 2”, I’ve have dies sets for up to 1 3/4”. Those carbide cutters for the notcher are nice.

tell y’all what bender I have. It’s the Woodward Fab model WFB2. It works pretty well. Wasn’t too tough to use a few years back. It bothers my back now to pull that handle. That’s why I’m adding the air hydraulic ram. It should make it easier on me, maybe interest my grandkids in making some projects.

It’s slow going for me in this heat, and it’s only 104 today. 15 minutes in the shop back in house for about an hour. This is all I’ve accomplished

Thank goodness for grandkids. The youngest came over, hollered across the shop Pappaw what you doing? Told him playing with some tubing, said you wanna help? Was just notching the first tube for a gusset, was on the top end of it. Had already done the bottom. He says Pappaw you sure you cut that right? Sure enough I cut it backwards. Handed him the protractor, tape, and the other piece of tube. He laid the tube out, measured and marked. Cut it about perfect. Man I love my grandkids.

Walked back from the pasture today, and my hip gave out at around 1/4 mi. or less. Had to stop before I could walk the rest of the way to the house. Old age ain't for sissies.

No sir it’s not. Born in 49 grew up in the best time to be a kid, awesome cars, music. Stayed outside till dark. Had the best food home made fresh everyday. Fresh crawfish, oysters, fish we caught daily. Sorry the meds are kicking in and I’m rambling
