So I bet there are more than a few of us who need music in the Garage.

This thread is for those that want to tell what they are using for tunes.

Oscar inspired me to start this, after he listed having Legacy speakers in his garage on another current thread.

I tend to buy old used equipment and hang on to some of it.

My garage system is pieced/ cobbled together, music by smart phone or a small jogging unit.
Currently I use a Crown DC 300 A 185 wpc Amp to power 2 unpowered subs. and a Yamaha sw 800 powered sub. Have some other subs I have not tried yet.
Main head unit is a Marantz SR 8000 receiver, speakers are old Pinnacle PN8 speakers with surrounds being OLD Acoustic Research AR's and center channel is an Infinity Reference standard, forget which one.

I was using Gen 5 Bose 901's as mains, but really did not care for the overall presentation of music in the garage or the house, with either the Crown, Yamaha, or my Soundcraftsman Pm 860 200 wpc amp powering them so down the road they went.

I just inherited a pair of "very" Vintage Altec Lansing Voice of the Theater home units with 15's and Horns, but haven't tried them yet.
My neighbors probably already think my stereo is to loud now.

So what do you have?

Are you Happy with the sound or Music producing qualities?

Going to upgrade soon, -what do you have in mind?

In the garage I have 3 Bluetooth JBL charge 4's that I use to steam my playlists on my phone to. They sound great paired together or by themselves.

On my truck I use a AOMAIS Waterproof 40W Loud Bluetooth Stereo Speaker that so far takes a beating and rain.

In my truck I have a 1000 watt Bash amp with 4 Bose outdoor speakers and a 10" JBL sub.

Edit: I just stream music from my phone in all instances. I have 225,000 plus songs on my server in the house which I stream though 5 Klipsch Speakers and a pair of Klipsch 8" subs. If anyone would like a copy of my music all you need to do is send me a 1.5TB Hard drive or larger and I'll gladly copy it for you.

I am still in the dark ages with 3' tall fat Kenwood speaks with a Yamaha Amp and Tuner. Sounds divine. Not sure on the new hot stuff out there.
I do remember in my early 20's when the ad said "When listening becomes and art, Your ready for a Crown". One of my shops simply employs a Milwaukee Jobsite radio.

I get by listening to an old cd/radio w/ intermittent volume problems... maybe this thread is a sign to upgrade.

Have a radio in the shop use it sometimes, it’s an old 1980’s something boom box, only gets FM now. I’m about deaf so mostly use it when my brother is here. Doesn’t get very good reception either

Ah, another Klipsch fan.

Heard my first set about 35 years ago, he had the "Corner" models and was powering them with a McIntosh preamp and amp. Source was a large reel to reel tape deck.
I was absolutely astounded at the music quality.


I get the draw of small powered bluetooth speakers, have a set of Oontz (Cambridge Soundworks) paired 21 watt models that have pretty good sound for portables, but I think the base is lacking compared to some other models I have heard.

Yeah, my Crown is a 1970's model, it was Hot rodded years ago by "Mesa Boggie" different caps and a couple other tweaks. It is a Good sounding amp, But so is the Marantz, which is why it runs the front mains I have a few other much older Marantz integrated amps. I do like Marantz, But My newest amp used for home theater is a Yamaha 7 channel unit. It sounds Really Good to me as well. For the money hard to beat Yamaha.

People that say all amps sound the same, well, I think that is bull, Had a few amps that wore thin after a very short time, one in particular a TFM 22 Carver.

I do turn down or off when MIG or stick welding as well.

You are right need to hear how the arc sounds for sure.
Although I don't think the HTP MIG in double pulse will ever sound "Normal" to me.

Anyway Very Good point smithdoor.

Don't screw up your welding over having some music.

I forget many members on a welding site weld most of their day. I do spend a lot of time repairing things, carb rebuilding, and painting body work as well, and like to have some tunes.

I started big in the 70's. This was in the beginning I added a couple reel to reels. That was a Pioneer SX3900 pushing into a Harmon Kardin amp pushing a pair of Denon 5' tall band speakers and a pair of JBL L150's along with a pair of Klipsch Heresy's.

Yeah it's a good point but with over 50 years welding, I'll listen to the music, even on the jobsite. Not one complaint yet except what might be playing at the time. lol

I'll see if I can snap a pic tomorrow. My current projects have me moving everything around in the garage, so I took down my speaker stands and my speakers are on the washer & dryer, lol.

My garage system consists of:

• Mains: Legacy Audio Studio HD bookshelf speakers
• Subwoofer: JBL 10" WGTi Differential-Drive Subwoofer in an old MDF ported box I made that I used to use in my car. (sometimes I swap in an Adire Audio Brahma 10D2 or a CSS SDX10 in place of the JBL WGTi if I feel like it)
• Mains Amp: Peavey CS-800X Class A/B, 0.030% THD+N
• Subwoofer Amp: Peavey IPR2 7500 for the JBL subwoofer, 0.15% THD+N
• Digital-Analog Converter: Resonessence Concero HD DAC
• Music Source: Laptop running JRiver Media Center Software (my own CD rips, only lossless formats like wav's and flac's) + I also frequently use my Tidal app since I'm subscribed to stream the Master Quality Authenticated Studio Tracks (MQA) that my DAC resolves amazingly
• DSP: dbx DriveRack PA2 6x Digital Signal Processor
• Line driver: Behringer Ultra-Gain MIC2200 Vacuum Tube Pre-Amp

Nice! The "legs" of my computer desk are a pair of JBL L100's. Man, for your sake I hope you kept those Klipsch Heresys and the L150s. They ain't cheap! The freaking L100's cost damn near $1000 last time I checked.

I have a pioneer receiver I bought in '91, a pair of 20$ garage sale POS speakers, and a PC running Linux to stream Pandora using the Pianobar terminal app.

I have all that old stuff in a corner,, HUGE Pioneer amp that has two giant (HEAVY!) transformers in it,,
Denon Tuner
Studio speakers,,

And I have a Milwaukee radio,
and a Porter Cable radio,,,

But, for some reason, none of that stuff will pull in a signal like a car radio,, even with an outside antenna.

my wife got me a Monster , Rockin Roller Indoor/Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker



This thing is PERFECT! it has an internal battery that will run it for 25 hours, a PA microphone,, with LOTS of power,, USB input,
And the tuner of the radio gets all sorts of stations that my other equipment can not even dream of.

It has great bass, lots of control,,

My other stuff will probably all go to GOODWILL!!

I have a ridgid boombox (plug in or battery) and smaller ridgid radio (battery only).

The sound on both is bleh! Would not really recommend.

I was already in the battery platform. They have new models but their rollout has been delayed for over a year, hopefully they'll step it up.

The small radio is nice for it's size/battery life, works great to listen to heidi and frank (HILARIOUS) in the morning as you can move it around with you instead of having it cranked to hear at distance.
