Cut a notch out of the blade. It'll do the pecking for ya.

You are confusing pecking with dabbing

There's certainly a lot of dabbing going on, especially with stick welding thin gauge steel, lol.

So then what is the duration of each dab that you use? Do you use 1 second each time? or more?

    Evolution 14” Blade Mistake?

To put in perspective let’s say you are cutting a piece of 1” square stock (steel). Maybe four 3 second “plunges” with a couple second lift in between to accomplish the cut?

I realize that may be a bit off to the more scientific approach you prefer but you sort of get the idea.

Thanks for the link. I would typically get Sait 3/32" double-reinforced since they were relatively inexpensive, but I wonder how a "better" wheel would perform, if there is such a thing. I had seen on the Pearl website that they offer some kind of "super wheel" with what they call "Synthetic Resinoid Technology". Sounds cool, but @ $15 a pop, I dunno, lol.

Lol, I get it. But what I fail to get is how that would produce less deflection/different results than if you simply kept a steady, appropriate pressure on the blade for the whole 12 seconds. I guess I'll have to try it to see the difference.

. Once I get to make some cuts with the Benchmark High Performance wheel, I’ll post how they perform.

There is a huge difference between a good chop saw blade and a poor one.

Well... OK, say you're using a wheel that cuts better on the rim than the sides. You make a plunge cut and it starts to veer off (or you hit a hard spot in the metal in it veers off - looking at you, Chinese steel). The side cutting action of the wheel is not much and blade deflection doesn't take much force, so you don't have much force pressing the wheel against the sidewall of the cut trying to straighten back out (not enough cutting pressure on side of blade).

If you're a pecker ( ), when you retract the blade and start again, the rim of the blade is going to have the opportunity to "clean up" the cut and shave off the side if the kerf where the blade was deflecting before.

Since the rim of the blade has more SFM, it aught to be more free cutting, plus it doesn't have the fiberglass strands slowing the cut down.

Hope that makes sense. Post alcohol... Happy 4th!!!!!

Its a matter of time with the ****ty little zip disk on electric grinders. I see guys attack everything with them like starved men and for me they are a last resort.

It does make sense, but I don't see it any different from taking a continuous plunge cut and using the proper, appropriate pressure to avoid blade deflection in the first place. If you avoid it from the get-go, then there is nothing to "clean up". But that's just how I see it.

That was staged. If you look at his protective eyewear in the left pic not in the one where he is wearing them, you can see they used a cut off wheel to gouge it first, and then managed to insert the broken piece into the deepest portion of the blade to make it look like it was thrown off and lodged in there. So yea I wanted to see actual examples of discs. I've used dewalt, and personally I don't like them because the abrasive bond is too hard. Sure it lasts a long time, but it also takes a long time to make the cut with them. I prefer slightly more friable discs to have a balance of cut speed and longevity.

This one doesn't look staged. There are a lot of WAY more graphic ones on Google Images.

This one doesn't look staged, either. https://m.imgur.com/zOAyZxU

Why is the one guy still wearing his sunglasses inside the hospital? You'd think they'd take them off by that time.

Maybe put them on for the picture? Like "yeah, I take the guards off my grinders, BUT at least I wear safety glasses" ? I dunno.

Dont forget to adjust the fence as the blade wears down so that the blade makes contact straight down.
