Why are you trying to weld your cap? Mine gets enough spatter when stick welding and sometimes gets holes burned into it; it's cotton so doesn't ever melt and drip onto my head, but it doesn't conduct current either.

PS All work was quoted and to produce as fast as possible.
It left no room for more fun ways of doing the job Just speed.

Don't you realize everything is about smithdoor.

    Regardless of the question,
He will tell you how he did it 30 years ago....

It's just repetitive nonsense every day.

Just look at every other post on the board.

I have been welding for over 50 years.

    Welding was not hobby

Type-o in the last post 📫
There other ways of doing job this faster than tig. TIG is very limit in most lines of work it what should used for.
It works great for hobby and some types repair.

They have spool guns that on paper 📃 welded down to 24 gauge and others spool guns to 20 gauge aluminum.

I work in steel mainly A36 and only did aluminum tig as hobby.
I finally used tig only for die repair as did not need a filler rod.

Dave, if someone asked how long it took the pioneers to walk beside a Conestoga wagon going across the country in the 1840's, you'd likely say you would have ridden a motorcycle instead, because it's faster....

I'd weld the Harley together with flux core.
An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
