Millermatic 30A feeder connection to MM200 and drive roll conversion?

I'm picking up a Millermatic 30A to run off one of my MM 200s(white face 81)

My goal is to set it up for aluminum

Can I get the 110 to run it off the machine?

Will a standard miller gun work?

How can I convert to the common Miller drive rolls? It has 0.035 V and I want to run 0.047 and 0.062 U for aluminum

It looks like the part to connect the gun is missing unfortuneately. Hoping I can make something.

I found this pic on another post on this site.

Looks like the part that I'm missing.

The good news is you need a front set rollers.
I used Tweco on my 30A and 30Bs and a 10 foot gun with Teflon liner. .

I machine the Tweco adapter so very close to feed rollers about 0.005 gap.

I am confused, why are you attaching an external wire feeder to a welder that already has a wire feeder built in? Thant makes NO sense to me.

For the drive roll part convert to quick change drive rolls.

    Know they fit the MM200.

To push 20lb spools of 3/64 and 1/16 aluminum 4043/5356 solid wire with u drive rolls and a custom 8' gun with nylon liner.

I don't have 3 phase yet at the new shop so doing the best with what I have to get **** done

I'd be more inclined to set up a new 15' Bernard gun with aluminum-specific Centerfire tips. So much easier.

Re: Millermatic 30A feeder connection to MM200 and drive roll conversion?

Being an '81 white face I presume it has the 4-pin spoolgun control receptacle in which case it doesn't have 115VAC there. As such a separate 115VAC power source (extension cord) would be required. And then there would be the issue of MM200 contactor control that would require modifying the MM30A internal circuitry.

If it were a later generation unit with 14-pin spoolgun control then the 115VAC needed for the MM30A would be available there and contactor control would be simple.

I take it a spoolgun with 2# spools is out of the question?

It's set up with the old style Bernard consumeables for now so easily converted to center-fire later on. I think all I have to do is change the diffuser.

I'll post pics of the gun later. I think it's pretty nice.

I have a MM200 with the 14 pin sitting right next to it.

The little 1# spools of aluminum don't last very long with thick wire. I have a spoolmatic 30a and spoolmatic 1/3

I honestly like using the 14 pin 200 better for this the older 81 has the older lower output and it works great with 0.023 for the thin stuff and the later blackface will have more power for thick aluminum.

The power pin adapter for this feeder is a "tweco" style but all my guns have a Miller back end including the one I just got made and I want to keep it like that.

Haven't looked into a solution yet

Did they have different adapters for these feeders?

Does one of them fit a standard miller power pin?

    Adapters?

Re: Millermatic 30A feeder connection to MM200 and drive roll conversion?

Getting a custom made gun to fit the feeder outlet guide

Ordered quick change drive roll kits with 3/64 and 1/16 u drive rolls

The nylon liner in my new 8' gun feeds solid 3/64 like Er70s6 works perfectly. I can only assume 4 drive rolls will be even better.

Can anybody help me on making a adapter from the 2 3 pin plugs on the back of the feeder to a 14 pin?

I also need a dummy miller backend like a spool gun uses so I can make a cable to power the feeder. Can't seem to find a part #

Re: Millermatic 30A feeder connection to MM200 and drive roll conversion?

What kind of internal modifications would need to be made to the feeder to work on a 4 pin mm200?

I'm okay with having a seperate cord for the feeder but the contactor control would be nice.

Can I just make a adapter from the hubbel recepticles on the 30a to a 14 pin?

Found a Hubbell to 14 pin adapter from Profax.

Will insert picture later. Apparently can't post images from mobile.
