I completely agree with using tubing, so count me in the monkey club, I'll buy the beers while we have good laughs

Now for a real challenge: adapt the rotating turntable to rotate in a different axis so that when you do have to cut angled miter cuts, you end up not cutting on top (on the flat part) that more readily dulls blades, but rather from one corner diagonally to another corner. I've yet to see that anywhere in a metal chop saw. Hint: the path that is needed to traverse is different when you have square tubing vs rectangular tubing vs angle vs channel
Appreciate the comments...and I'll get the second round of beers! It's frustrating to to ask for very specific design ideas for a specific project, and end up getting a lecture on fabrication methods and what materials not to use. Wasn't trying to start a debate on the merits of miter cuts, or what's wrong with tubing in fab projects. I just want to build a turntable for my saw.

What would a saw stand that rotates in multiple axes even look like? Only way I can currently adjust cuts in the vertical axis is by manipulating the stock (with the V-block that came with the saw), but that only works for 90* cuts, and not for miters.

Yep...we're in the middle of a stretch of close to 2 weeks of consecutive triple digit days and heat indexes of 110-115...with no relief in sight. My metal-skinned shop is uninsulated, and the only cooling I have is a shop fan. It's been pretty hard to get motivated to go out there the last few days. Been drinking my beers in the house where it's cool

If you not use to high heat it can be bad . Where I live 110 is very common and your body gets use to heat.
But this hot 🔥 weather is in parts of country that is typically in 90's. We see the deaths go up in parts of the country.

I'm almost done installing a 2ton mini-split in my garage shop and it couldn't have come at a better time, since August is even hotter here. I work all this week (in an office) and then when I get home I hate the transition into the heat; I'd rather just have it one way or the other. I thought I could get away with lots of airflow and ventilation in the garage, but not this year. I can take the heat mentally, but that doesn't stop me from sweating and welding/metalworking in soaked clothes is not smart.

I've thought about taking my chop saw apart and completely rebuilding it to do what I mentioned about the additional rotation and just overall beefier (it's a stamped base Evolution Rage2 14" saw), but time is always a factor for me. But it's on the back-burner of things-I-wanna-do-but-don't-have-time-for.

I hear ya on the sweat. Oklahoma's Augusts are bad enough...can't imagine how hot it is in South Texas! Our local weather forecasters aren't giving any hope of a break in the heat any time soon, so I don't expect any relief in the near future. I'm too old and too soft to withstand working and welding in a shop where - even with a big shop fan circulating the air - the temp inside tops the triple digit mark.

If you do get around to that saw project, I hope we get to see it hear...

In small shop a table must do more that one thing.
When had large shop everything had own location like a roller table for saw.
But small shop my welding also can a wood saw too.
The bandsaw is set same height as the saw horse.

It just takes more planning in small shop.

    Hello Alex,
Thank you for sharing that! That is a cool and well-planned design...however, what I need is to build a saw base that will allow the saw to sit directly on the top of the far right end of my workbench (pretty much right where it is now)...so that the saw actually rotates in place - in the horizontal plane - to allow for different angled miter cuts without moving the table away from the wall. Also, my work bench barely fits in the space already, so extending the end of the table is not ideal, even with a stand that folds away when not in use.

    Cheers,
