New to the forum thank you all for having me. I have a early 70s Airco wasp welder generator ( ac/dc 225) that is not producing arc or 120v power. The only thing working is the DC power outlet. I have cleaned the slip rings with cummutator stone checked the brushes to be sure they were free, went through wiring ect. Still only produces DC power. Any ideas, hope to hear from you.
check all the large resisters with a slide adjuster. Mark the position move away and clean the rust. then put it back. Might come back to life.
Post serial number, might be able to tell who made it for AIRCO then we might be able to pull up a diagram. Broken wires and bad connections are common on old welders.
was looking at some welder diagrams of 1970ish welders and then only had 115 volt DC plug power. some had only AC weld power some were both AC and DC weld power.
Check out the Miller ad 225, aea 200 and a aead 200 series welders.
post the Airco spec and Model numbers, If it was made by Miller I can cross it.
Send me a PM so I will be notified you posted.
Thanks for the reply. The serial # is HJ 108476. Those slide resistors are new I replaced them and put the slide ring were the original one was placed.
That machine was built by Miller. The HJ serial number prefix makes it a 1978 vintage.
The DC outlet is powered by the exciter portion of the generator. The weld/auxiliary output is from the main generator. You need to check continuity/resistance of the main rotor windings at the slip rings.
