    Newbie introduction

    Howdy,
I have been a looking for a while, and I finally signed up.
    Location: near Rochester N.Y.
For my day job I work as an HVAC tech, some brazing & soldering.

    welding history:
I started with an Oxy-Acetylene torch set-up that I bought in the early 70’s.

In the early 80’s I bought a Forney stick machine, it was old and “HUGE”, built sometime in the late fifties, with multiple taps for amp control.

Then I took a couple of smaw welding classes at the local adult education / trade school.
What a difference there was in starting your arc on their machines, compared to the Forney. (The forney was good once you got your arc going.)
I started looking into getting new capacitors for the Forney ($$$), but instead I gave it away.

In the late 90’s I bought a Thermal Arc TA-270 "T-Bird" engine drive.
It has been a great welder and I also use it as my backup electrical generator.
With it I can do stick, mig (“Portafeed 1000” suitcase wire-feeder) and tig (air-cooled, lift start).
The last item I added a few years back was a spool gun set-up from Thermal Arc for aluminum work.

Looking forward to adding my 2-cents when I can help.

    Regards
