Found a MSDS showing that J.W. HARRIS CO., INC. made this and a UltraSuperMissileWeld.

The chemistry range listed on the MSDS is too broad to know exactly what this is, but looks like a 300 stainless steel. 304 is your basic 18 Cr / 8 Ni, and this is 11-30 Cr / 1-10 Ni.

Many years ago Eutetec had a high dollar filler called 680. If I remember correctly It was great for welding two different types of steel together. They has good info on proper proceedures. It really welds nice. Just a few years ago while at the welding supply I asked the counter man if he had an equivilent rod to the 680 and he sold me some of the Super Missile weld. It also welded very nicely.

 

We used that in the shop one time to repair an old tractor part. I think it has a 700,000 psi tensile strength or somethin like that. It runs nice and smooth though.

 

70,000 psi, that's what most 300 series stainless welds are. I think the strongest possible theoretical steel alloy is 400-450 psi based on values predicted from hardness (not really possible to tensile test).
