They look nice, whatever they're for. I'm always amazed by the artistry I see in your projects. you can tell there's a lot of thought and effort put into them. the bark almost looks natural. nice job

that looks like it took some time. Is it harder to do all those stringers knowing that it isn't for the sake of attaching something but just for decoration? Also not "ugly" it's perfect decorativity..

Yeah you put wine bottles on the branches, stems from some old hoodoo root doctor kind of stuff. Something about catching spirits in the bottles.

Less than 3 lbs per tree total. The bark welding wasn't enough to make a difference on my cheap bathroom scale.

There are loops at the end of each root for anchors if it's going on a hard surface, or you could sink a post in the ground and set them over it. A couple three feet or so should be plenty. They're fairly stable as they stand.

The short bent pieces of pipe get 4 long narrow notches on the branch end, then that end is beat together into a taper and welded up after getting fit to the 3/4" "tree bark" embossed bar.

Then they are put together like the collector on a header, then welded to the trunk. The trunk is 3" pipe with a few plasma slices partially through to allow easy bending. Then they're welded up so they have a more organic curve to them.

Peter I wish I had more. These actually stem from a swap ( I know, I know, never ever swap. But this was a good one.) with my land lord.

One is his in exchange for a gold and diamond necklace he had that I gave my wife for Christmas. (BTW she loved it) He's a jeweler (as well as a machinist and plant maint. eng.)

While I was making one I figured I'd get some extra material to defray the shipping costs and make 2 extras.

So one will be my wife's Valentine's Day present. I think I'm going to add leaves and hooks and make it a bird feeder hanger. I'm thinking about incorporating a bird bath made from sheet that would look like the top center of the canopy, too.

The 3rd one is for sale, $499.99 plus freight. I'm going to throw it in my truck (along with the afore mentioned deer head I've started) and see if any of the craft shops around here are interested in some artsy fartsy stuff.

After reading the box thread I might break out the o/a torch and give it a go old school on the skull, maybe even use a coat hangar for filler. It's kind of like a box, just not really like a box.
