Some nice work Duane. When you talk about soft pad are you using a 3M product or something like it?

Re: Saved Another One From The Scrapman!

Thanks and sorry 'bout that - actually the correct term would be flap disc like this:
    Name: Flap Disc.jpg
Views: 1355
Size: 7.2 KB

vs. a sanding disc like this used with a flexible backer (that I refer to as a "soft pad").

Re: Saved Another One From The Scrapman!

    Well . . .

. . . all subassemblies (starter, alternator, governor, mag, water pump, idler board) are rebuilt and ready to go, main generator ready, battery box rebuilt and all the parts including a new radiator, all hoses, rheostat, armature bearing, Murphy gauges, etc., etc. needed to put it back together with just the engine rebuild left to do. And of course media blasting, sanding, prep and painting.

I keep telling Judy the next one I put back together from pieces is going to be mine. Getting closer I guess.

Nothing new at this point as project funds still won't allow addressing the remaining engine overhaul right now.

    Thanks for askin'.

Duane, I pulled my 1969 SA out of the corner today. Thinking about starting to work on it again, most other projects out of the way now. I need some more inspiration, have you made any more progress on this machine?

Re: Saved Another One From The Scrapman!

    Unfortunately not.

Like a lot of other folks, money has been tight and my "toys fund" has been suffering right along with the day-to-day. Still stalled at the engine overhaul and then paint and reassemble.

Re: Saved Another One From The Scrapman!

Unfortunately still in pieces. Life has been getting in the way I guess.

Just sent another machine that belongs to a pipeliner from Louisiana home Friday that was here for some maintenance issues and to have a Weldtron remote installed. I also have a short hood and red face here I'm working on now.

I keep telling myself I'll get it back together soon and I'm glad I don't have to make my living with it.

In the case of this and my other "pet projects" it's a matter of more important things have taken priority.

if you were closer i would bring my 1300 hour red face with a locked up rusted #2 cylinder over and have you set it right. i just dont have the time to screw with it like it should be screwed with.

That can vary widely depending on what the unit needs and what the owner wants.
