Hello my name is Nic. I have about 25-30 CST 280 suitcase welders where I work that I need to at least attempt to repair. With it being an election year, things have slowed down a lot for us being a construction company, most of the welders being used in man lifts for structural welding, either steel buildings or precast walls that need the imbeds in the footing and in the wall panel welded together. With the work slowing down I don't have a lot to do and if I cant figure out how to at least diagnose these welders I might be laid off for a while.

Most of the welders seem to have the same problem with the main board going bad, PC2 or part #244500. Almost all of them have the same board issue where the coil on the board gets hot and makes a screeching noise, I will add a picture of that part of the board. Any help is appreciated, looking for board diagnosis help, online classes for welder repair and circuit board repair.

Past history on repairing welders, I have swapped several circuit boards on Lincoln Invertec 275-S welders and managed to make several weld again by swapping good boards from units that have been smashed or other components going bad. These seem like simpler machines and a lot easier to diagnose. Also puClled armatures out of older big Lincoln SA-250 welders and several boards installed on miller 400 pro engine drive welders. Sorry for the paragraph, felt like I needed to explain a little more. Thanks for any help!

I repair these boards, frankcoproducts.com

That is part of the switch mode power supply, they use a combination of TL431 and opto coupler for feedback to regulate the pwm to the switching transistors. As simple as these are, they are tricky to repair!
