Bought this from a friend of a friend, story was his brother passed in "94" and he has used it for an Aux. generator since, and has been in the garage all this time. It's a perkins Diesel. Went to look at it and it started right off sounded fine, put a meter to it and all checked out.
It also came with an LN-25 , the guy who had it is a retired electrical contractor and is selling everything and heading to Hawaii.
Now the bad, got it home and all was well so I thought let me see how it welds, ran 1 7018 and it seemed fine, finished and I noted it would not auto Idle down, wanted to but then kicked up, also now no power output, aux. or welding, started checking everything could not find anything wrong. Shut it down and opened the side, Heart sunk when I found a broken slip ring. Sorry no picture of that.
Anyway I think that might be it, the ring did not grenade but it is slightly loose on the insulator, Think it was just bad timing, and I don't think the seller had any knowledge of it as he demo'd it at his place and according to my friends he is a stand up guy. I know the small WP's are prone to this, the rotor is different but the slip rings are the same. Tracked down the unit from Lincoln but TJ if you see this give me a PM if you can get them.
In any event would a cracked ring give the above symptoms, I figure it must have broke the wire connection to the rotor.
How hard is the fix, I have read some of the posts on it but was wondering how hard it will be to get the old Slip Ring off, if it can be pulled or pressed or if it has to be cut. I don't mind changing it, but it looks like it could be salvaged. just a straight crack across the ring.
Code is 9136. To bad on this one as it seemed fine, but now is another project. Moral, always weld with it, don't trust the meter alone.
