I have borrowed a few ideas I have seen on the web to design my welding cart. I started off by purchasing a a 2 drawer legal size filing cabinet on CL for $18.00. Overall dimensions for it are 18.25"w x 28"t x 25"d. I going to use 1" square stock with 1/8" wall to build the cart. I will slide the cabinet in from the front and it will sit on the cross members. I will add a wood top and put my welder on it. I have room for 2 tanks at the back. I have a pair of 8" diameter wheels I will use at the back and a set of locking casters up front. I am just starting to play with sketch up and did this basic drawing. I will add a handle on the front, some kind of cord keeper, and a way to secure the tanks. This will be my 1st welding project.

Yes there will be some kind of lip at the bottom for the tanks. I like the idea of a ratchet strap (have lots of those) for securing the tanks. Maybe they won't rattle around as I roll the cart around. I have seen many of the carts with the angle on top. Once I get the base up on wheels I will check the height (think it will be about 34" tall) and add a angle to the top if not to tall. The angle iron top hold the wood is a good idea. I have been woodworking for over 30 years and have a workshop, I definitely understand the need for good planning and look forward to applying many of my old skills and learning new ones.
