What's the major difference between The older Ranger 250 with CT and the newer 250 gxt. Did Lincoln have problems with the CT or was it a marketing change to have to get CT on the Ranger 305 D and G models only? And how is the welding performance between the two 250s. Thanks Fellas.

Someone must know something about these machines.

Yeah, I do. My friend has one of the last ranger 250's made. It has chopper just like the 305. Just not quite as much output and didn't have digital meters. The 250GXT uses simpler technology and is a little cheaper to make. The GXT weighs more, though. Doesn't have output to run a feeder, just a VS of course. Not near as much control in the arc as the chopper.

Thanks deafman, I was wondering what the advantages were with the chopper style. Does the chopper weld better than the gxt? I see alot of Miller bobcat 250s out there, especially on mechanic trucks, but heard they don't have the same arc as the Lincoln Rangers. I've never had the chance to try any of these smaller machines outside of the SA 200s that i have. Thought about getting one because of the generator power and lighter machine weight.
I talked to one of the guys where i get my welding supplys about the welding diffrences between the SA machines and these smaller units, and he said "If you've been welding with them old Pipeliners , your not gonna like any of these newer welders".
I'm just curreous about both.

The GXT is really about the same as the bobcat 250. Just rear engine. A lot easier to work on and more standard, off the shelf parts. Neither the bobcat or the GXT has a dig setting. You can try dropping down into the lower welding range and running the dial near max for more dig. The chopper has high switching speed and a real smooth arc. The GXT is a real solid machine, though. The engines on the different machines are the same.

That's good to know. I guess in this category of welders, It doesn't really matter which one you go with.
